Excellent country pubs and restaurants can be found within 2 miles and just 4 miles away is the pretty market town of Thirsk, host to the James Herriot Museum and Visitor Attraction situated in Kirkgate, you can step back in time to the days when this was not only home to Alf Wight, Thirsk's own author and vet, but a working veterinary practice. Thirsk also offers a good selection of shops, inns, tea rooms and quality takeaway restaurants. This is wonderful walking country - footpaths from the cottages lead to local villages and to the famous White Horse of Kilburn a well known landmark carved out of chalk in a hillside near the picturesque village of Kilburn.

The cottages are ideally situated for visiting the North Yorkshire Moors, Dales and Coast and the famous historic walled city of York.
